An old manufacturing plant from the 1900s has transformed into an art gallery + community studio in the Hillside neighborhood.

The Hillside Art Center (1145 E. 22nd St., Ste. 104) is having its grand opening on Fri., Oct. 21 from 5:30-8:30 p.m. with an exhibition called “Ground Breaking/Breaking Ground” from artist Gary Gee. The event is free to attend + invites the public to take part in art activities and demos.

Want to get involved? The center is currently taking input from the community to plan its initial schedule, which will include art classes, exhibitions, corporate team building + STEAM programs, camps, and workshops.

Keep an eye out for even more developments from the Indianapolis Art Center — it’s planning to open another facility in Fishers in 2024.

Editor’s pick: Any Jane Austen fans out there? Tomorrow, I’m seeing “Sense and Sensibility” at the Indiana Repertory Theatre + I can’t wait to see how the novel is interpreted live. Pro tip: if you’re free for the matinee on Thurs., Oct. 6, the IRT will host a “Talk Back” about the show, during which staff, actors, or other partners will do a deep dive into the play’s content for about 20 minutes. Get tickets before the show ends.
