We all know Groundhog Day is the Bill Murray movie where he relives the same day over and over, but can anyone remember the moral of the story? Spoiler alert: it’s only when the main character does something truly selfless that he breaks out of the cycle.
What better time to do a little something extra for your neighbors than on this special occasion? We’ve rounded up a few small actions to spread some local love.
☕ Pay it forward
Coffee shops like Rabble and Blue Collar Coffee Co. are making it easy for Hoosiers to share their coffee addiction. At the register, you can simply buy a token or prepay card and the next person who needs or the friend of your choice it can pay for their cup of joe with it.
🚗 Take the high road
We know I-70 can be busy on the morning commute (especially considering North Split construction), but think about taking a few more seconds to get to the office and let someone merge ahead of you. If you’re downtown, why not put some money in the parking meter next to yours?
🗑️ Feed the can, man
If you see a piece of litter, pick it up and throw it in the trash can. And hey, if you like the feeling of making Indy a little cleaner, you might consider becoming a part of Keep Indianapolis Beautiful.
🥫 Give a little bit
Heading to the grocery store tonight? We recommend buying a few extra items like granola bars, hygiene products, or easy meals that could go in your neighborhood’s Indy Community Pantry or free food box.
💌 Say thank you
Grateful for a person in your life or know a local organization that you think does great work around the city? Write them a note. Whether it’s the neighbor who shovels your driveway or a nonprofit like ArtMix, everyone likes to know they’re appreciated. And if you don’t write it on personalized stationery, are you really writing a thank you note?
What’s something selfless that you’ll be doing today? Let us know.
