Election Day will be here before you know it + early voting has already started. To make the process as easy as possible, we’ve put together a must-know guide for the 2023 primary election.
🗳️ What’s on the ballot
In addition to a list of Indianapolis mayoral candidates, a referendum question should appear on Hoosier ballots. Depending on their locations, voters will be weighing in on three Marion County school district referendums — IPS is looking to use funding for construction + renovation, and MSD of Warren Township and the School Town of Speedway are both looking to use funding for operating expenses.
Pro tip: You can see the official information about your ballot on the Indiana Voters portal by clicking on “Who’s on the ballot.”
🤝 Meet the mayoral candidates
There are nine candidates up for the seat this year — five Democrats + four Republicans.
Note: Some additional candidates may appear on your ballot who have since withdrawn from the race.
🗓️ Important dates
Thursday, April 20: Deadline for absentee voting (vote by mail) applications
Monday, May 1: Early voting ends
Tuesday, May 2: Election Day + mail-in ballot receipt deadline
There are several local organizations and offices that will be open for voters who want to avoid the long lines on Election Day — see the full list, including hours, here.
