By now, you’ve probably heard that Indy will be hosting the NBA All-Star weekend in 2024. But did you know part of it will be held at the football stadium?
In addition to hosting the Olympic Swim Team Trials in June of next year, Lucas Oil will also be used as a multi-purpose venue for festivities on Saturday, Feb. 17, 2024. Why? Well, it will allow almost twice as many people to enjoy the party (~18,000 at Gainbridge vs. ~35,000 at Lucas Oil). Plus, because of its versatility, the south end will be able to host activities while the north end can stay open for performances.
Here’s what you need to know about State Farm All-Star Saturday Night and some of the perks you’ll be able to enjoy while the league is in town.
The big event
Several noteworthy activities are set to take place at Lucas Oil, including:
AT&T Slam Dunk Contest
Starry Three-Point Contest
Kia Skills Challenge
Over 10,000 tickets will go on sale on Monday, July 24 with prices ranging from $24 to $79. Hoosiers will get first dibs on tickets, as long as they sign up to stay in the hoop — we mean loop.
The 73rd NBA All-Star Game will take place the following day at Gainbridge Fieldhouse.
The perks
There will be free IndyGo rides from Thursday, Feb. 15 to Sunday, Feb. 18, as well as extended nightly service. Pacers Bike Share rides will also be free during that time.
We think Mayor Hogsett said it best: “Between two top-tier sports venues, four days of free public transit, and one of the most walkable downtowns in America, NBA All-Star has never been more accessible or fan-friendly.”

Gershman Partners + Citimark are looking to build an industrial park on Indy’s south side and plan to break ground early next year. The firms are seeking a tax break in order to save $7.56 million over five years. The complex is expected to employ 369 people and be completed by 2030. (IBJ)

The city broke ground on a $15 million park + environmental community center on the far east side, set to be completed next summer. While Flipside organizes a slew of sales throughout the year, the one coming up this weekend is special — featuring a number of items from race car driver + former owner of the Stutz Building, Turner James Woodard’s personal collection.
A 1984 Cadillac Seville, a 1974 Jensen Interceptor III, and a 1974 converted Porsche 914 will be available to purchase on Friday, June 23 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Saturday, June 24 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. You’ll find furniture, shoes, skis, dishes, and even dog portraits, too.
Want to know more about Turner? He’s also a successful entrepreneur + artist and nine of his cars are currently being showcased at the newly opened Stutz Car Museum. The Hoosier has kept the Stutz Motor Racing tradition going with his own racing team, Team Woodard.
In case you missed it, Flipside Estates has a fairly new storefront in Fountain Square. I was able to stop by on a First Friday + found several tempting items, including a diamond necklace, a painting of a dancer, and a lamp that was calling my name. It’s located next to WildEye Wellness.
