Last month, we asked you for your burning design and remodel questions for the experts at the Kohler Signature Store. Today, we’re sharing their answers. Here’s what they had to say:
Q: Should hardware finishes always match? If I have gold vanity knobs, does that mean I need gold sink fixtures?
A:Josh, Design Consultant, says:
“Mixing finishes can work when done thoughtfully. If your bathroom vanity is made from cherry wood and has gold knobs, for example, select something with the same warm undertone. Polished nickel would be a good option. However, matching fixture finishes is fail-proof for that polished look, especially in small spaces.”
Q: What bathroom features are must-haves for safe, comfortable senior living?
A: Donnie, Design Consultant, says:
“For ADA compliance, consider:
Grab bars
Faucets with wide handles (Kohler’s “Avid” or “Artifacts” faucets are good options)
Wall-mounted vanity with sufficient height for wheelchair access
Hand shower with ADA on/off adapter
Taller-than-average bathtubs and toilets to allow for easier standing and sitting
The best 55+ home is a smart home. Kohler’s “Anthem” digitally-controlled shower has a simple push button, temperature control + voice control, which is helpful for possible slips and falls. Touchless faucets can also be helpful for arthritis or limited motor function.”
Q: What kitchen backsplashes do you recommend?
A: Josh, Design Consultant, says:
“I love our MADE by Ann Sacks collection — it has tons of simple, geometric formats in Earthenware and Stoneware, in every color you could want.”
Q: I want to renovate my bathroom, but I have no idea where to start. Help!
A: Donnie, Design Consultant, says:
“Step 1: Get clear on what you want, and what your budget is. Ask yourself, “Is this my forever home, or am I looking to update for a future resell investment?”
Step 2: Gather inspiration. Our Instagram, Pinterest, and design magazines are all good options.
Step 3: Secure a contractor, and share the ideas you gathered. This is pertinent to getting an accurate quote upfront.
Now that you have a timeline and design planned, your last step is to visit the Kohler Indy showroom. We’ll help you bring your vision to life with the exact right faucets, mirror, tile, vanities, and more.”

This is going to so sound dorky, but I got a new coaster for my desk and it’s seriously made my week. I got mine from a Charlotte-based designer off of Etsy, but in case you didn’t know, you can search for artists based in Indianapolis and support local shops.
