Indiana Fashion Week brings haute couture to Indianapolis

Designers, make it work. Indiana Fashion Week is rolling out the red carpet on Monday, Aug. 21 with runway shows, youth opportunities + a full schedule of events.

Indiana Fashion Week started in 2019 with only 30 participants, six audience members, and a budget of $250. It’s quickly grown into an annual highlight that attracts hundreds of style enthusiasts, entrepreneurs, and professionals from all over the state.

Whether you’re interested in creating your own clothing or simply like to watch as designers do their thing, there’s something for you next week. Don’t be fashionably late to these upcoming events:

Runway Show at the Fashion Mall | Wednesday, Aug. 23 | 6-8 p.m. | The Fashion Mall at Keystone, 8702 Keystone Crossing, Indianapolis | Free | Witness an unforgettable showcase of cutting-edge designs and trend-setting styles.

BE ME | Thursday, Aug. 24 | 5:30-7:30 p.m. | Selfie WRLD, 8401 Michigan Rd., Indianapolis | Free | Sponsored by Girl Coalition of Indiana, this event encourages girls of all ages to celebrate their inner beauty and learn about careers in writing, film, photography, design, beauty, and more.

GenAI INpacts Fashion | Thursday, Aug. 24 | 6-7 p.m. | Virtual, live stream | Free | Step into the world of fashion innovation with this virtual seminar exploring generative AI and its transformative impact on the fashion industry.

Fashion IN Transit: The Runway Show | Friday, Aug. 25 | 6–7:30 p.m. | IndyGo Carson Transit Center, 201 E. Washington St., Indianapolis | $50-$100 | Free tickets are all claimed, but you can still join the audience at the Indiana Fashion Week Finale Show with a VIP pass. Civic
  • The City-County Council’s Administration and Finance Committee approved a proposal to create an Office of Equity, Belonging, and Inclusion. The office, to be headed by Ben Tapper, is awaiting full approval by the full council in September. (WISH)
Development
  • Plans have been approved for a $175 million, 150-acre industrial park off I-65 on the south side. The park will include five industrial buildings, a retail/mixed use area, and public park space. It’s expected to be completed by 2030. (IndyStar)
History
  • On Tuesday, state leaders broke ground on a new, publicly-accessible Indiana State Archives building that will house important historical documents. Located near the downtown Canal Walk, it’s expected to be completed in 2025. (WISH)
Edu
  • This year, more than a dozen students at Warren Central High School will get the opportunity to participate in a new entrepreneurial class. Those enrolled will receive 16 dual college credit hours, and in May, four seniors will get to launch their new business. Next up: Shark Tank applications. (WTHR)

  • Camptown | Help teach young people about life through outdoor adventure + nature programs that help build confidence, character, and hope.
  • Indiana Historical Society | Volunteer for seasonal events or work year-round as a collections or conservation volunteer.
  • Friends of Indianapolis Dogs Outside (FIDO) | Drive down alleys to find dogs in need, mix food for the pantry, or fundraise for the outdoor pups around town.
  • Keep Indianapolis Beautiful | Volunteer to pick up trash around the city or plant trees to beautify our streets.
  • NeighborLink Indianapolis | Give aging houses a makeover and harness your organizational talents for seniors in the city.
  • Horizon House | Become an advocate for Hoosiers experiencing homelessness by working in the donation center, landscaping, or lending a hand in the kitchen.
