Inspired by her daughter’s love for art, Alissa Moody and her business partner Chrissy Sweigart have opened Create Art Studio in Broad Ripple — a place where people of all ages can come together and explore ways to create + communicate through art.

“My daughter has been an artist since she could hold a pencil, so really like at two years old,” Moody said. “We have been seeking out more places for her to really dig into the arts, and also have seen that need for all age classes.”

So, they decided to create that place themselves. Co-owner Sweigart has 20+ years of experience as an art educator and will be the main youth art educator at Create Art Studio, plus 10 other local artists are also on board to teach art classes of various mediums to all ages.

Create Art Studio also sells work by the artists who have partnered with the space to teach classes.

From painting to embroidery to macrame, Create Art Studio offers a variety of classes that can range from individual drop-in sessions to classes that are part of a multiple-week series.

The space opened last weekend and has already hosted four classes. It’s also gearing up for a big art weekend in the neighborhood. Create Art Studio will be having its first Create Outdoor Mini-Market on Saturday, Oct. 14 in conjunction with the Broad Ripple Art Walk from 1 to 4 p.m.

They will have artists setting up tents in their back lot to showcase and sell their work + there will also be a live DJ, food, and drinks.

You can also book the studio for private events and parties. In the next month or so, the space above Create Art Studio will become an Airbnb to host traveling artists for weekend workshops or guests from all over to stay and enjoy our city.

This weekend will be the perfect opportunity to check out this new small business and welcome it to the village.

I’m excited to see a place like Create Art Studio opening up in Broad Ripple. A couple months ago, I tried a watercolor workshop by Emily Winslow for the first time and it was so fun. I think I want to try try an embroidery class at Create Art Studio next.
