Are you looking to pick up a new hobby in 2024? Indy’s dance studios are toe-tally worth trying out.

Learn fancy footwork in a salsa class, get a good core workout while breakdancing, or build your confidence in a heels class.

Indy-cisive about where to go? Here are a few spots to get your dance journey started.

DanceWorks Indy, 537 E. Ohio St.

DanceWorks offers both dance + fitness courses to all ages and abilities. Classes range from Ballet and Hip-Hop to Heels, and Swerk. Pro tip: If you’re new to the studio, sign up for the newbie special for $29 with two weeks of unlimited classes.

Latin Expressions Dance Company, 502 N. Capitol Ave.

Whether you’re a salsa newbie or a bachata pro, there is something for everyone at Latin Expressions, with classes ranging from absolute beginner to advanced. You don’t need a partner to participate + there are both private and group lessons.

If you’re looking for a high-energy and encouraging environment to start your dance journey — InDanza offers hip-hop, sexy dance, reggaeton, lyrical jazz classes, and more.

Flex those muscles, boost that confidence, and spin your way to pole-perfection with Nexxus Movement pole classes. Classes range from beginner to advanced with a variety of pole classes mixed with strength and conditioning, sensual movement courses, flexibility training, and styling.

  • Indiana ranked No. 2 on the Forbes list of top states to start a business in. Indiana’s low costs of starting a business — an average of $24,500 — as well as funding assistance helped give Indiana its high ranking. (WISH)
Sports
  • The Pacers could be without one of their top players for a while. Tyrese Haliburton injured his hamstring and will get an MRI to see if there was further damage. The Pacers play the Wizards today at Gainbridge, then head out for a six-game road trip. (IndyStar)
Concert
  • Get ‘em while they’re hot. Old National Centre just announced $20.24 concert tickets to celebrate the new year. Get tickets to 50+ shows this winter and spring. Tickets will be available for purchase Jan. 11-Jan. 15.
Eat
  • Family-owned Indonesian restaurant Wisanggeni Pawon celebrated its soft opening at East 71st Street. Previously only available for takeout, its new location offers dine in. Try Indonesian cuisine such as Beef Rendang, Mie Ayam, and Martabak Manis.
Drink
  • Local Tea’s Me Cafe, owned by WNBA Hall of Famer Tamika Catchings, will be selling its new bottled teas at 16 retail stores across Indy, like Meijer and Kroger. Five of the company’s most popular teas, including Summer Blush and Pomegranate Blueberry, will be available in stores. (Indianapolis Recorder)

  • The Indianapolis Zoo will welcome the first rhino calf ever to be born at the zoo this February. Zenzele, the expectant 19-year-old white rhino, came to Indy in 2023. Zenzele’s calf will be the fifth rhino in the zoo’s herd. (WRTV)

Indy ranked No. 4 hottest real estate market for 2024

The Circle City was ranked No. 4 on Zillow’s list of hot real estate markets in 2024. That’s right, Indy rose 13 spots in the ranks compared to 2023.

Zillow took the top 50 most populated metro areas and looked at factors like forecasted growth of home values and jobs, home construction, and the number of households with homeowners to determine where cities ranked.

Indy shares the top four spots alongside Columbus (hey, CBUStoday), Cincinnati, and Buffalo.

Other key findings include:
  • The typical home value in Indy is $217,513.
  • Home values in Indy have increased by 1.5% over the last year.
  • The average rent is $1,317 for all bedrooms and property types.
  • The average amount of time a home spends on the market is 14 days.
