Tap tap... *mic screech*

Whether your idea of a fun night out is working on your “tight five,” playing your newest original song, showing off your Shakespearean sonnets, or simply enjoying the show from the audience, here are open mic nights all over Indy you can check out.

Just for laughs

Fountain Square Brew Co. | Every Wednesday, 7-10 p.m.
Not a joke: during comedy open mic night, pints are $5. The brewery also hosts open stage for musicians on Tuesdays from 7 to 9:30 p.m.

Helium Comedy Club | Select Tuesdays, 8 p.m.
Sign-ups for three-minute sets typically open on Thursday the week before the event and end 24 hours later. The club gets more than 100 sign-ups every week, so don’t be discouraged if you don’t get chosen right away.

We all just wanna be big rockstars

The Red Lion Grog House | Every Wednesday, 7-10 p.m.
Treat yourself after your feat of bravery with some fish and chips or bangers and mash.

Books and Brews | Every Thursday, 7-11 p.m.
Acts are allowed three songs or a 15-minute set. Poetry or story telling is also welcome, and all material must be family friendly. Pro tip: the space also hosts open jam sessions for musicians of all skill levels every Monday starting at 3 p.m.

The latest scoop on Broad Ripple’s ice cream paradise

If your idea of a nice treat is an ice treat, you’re in luck. Local ice cream shops are making moves to give everyone a taste of the sweet life — particularly in Broad Ripple. Here’s the scoop on the most recent developments:

Canal Creamery just opened last weekend. A sister shop to Canal Bistro, the preciously pink store is serving up scoops of traditional flavors like cookie dough as well as shakes, floats, and sundaes. Its website hints that boozy shakes may be added to the menu soon.

Meanwhile, just down the street, Brics is taking a brief hiatus from Monday, March 11 to Friday, March 15. It plans to complete renovations to maintain the small shop’s charm.

Nicey Treat fans, take note: the Nicey Pop Shop in Broad Ripple will be moving across the street from Flatwater Restaurant. We’ll let you know when we hear of a reopening date — in the meantime, the shop is also hiring.

You won’t ever catch me trying my hand at standup comedy, but my fiancé wants to perform at an open mic soon. He keeps a running list of bits on his phone — hopefully not too many of them are about me. 😬
