Vote in INDYtoday’s coffee shop bracket

A local coffee shop bracket with round one nominations
What’s your favorite coffee shop in Indy? | Graphic by 6AM City
With the NCAA Men’s and Women’s Basketball Tournaments just around the corner, we’re joining the fun of bracket competitions with a faceoff of our own.

Last year, you helped us name the best burger: 317 Burger. This year, we asked you to share your favorite coffee shop in Indy. Now — thanks to you and the help of a random generator we have the official lineup for our bracket.

Who’s in the running

Going head-to-head in the first round are:
  • Commissary and Kaffeine Coffee Co. | Commissary is a full-service coffee bar + barber shop, while Kaffeine Coffee Co. serves premium third-wave coffee in a modern, rustic environment.
  • Gaia Cafe and Botanical and The Groovy Cat Cafe | Gaia is a cozy spot that used to be called Bee Coffee Roasters + offers freshly baked goods, while Groovy Cat Cafe serves local coffee blends and bites near Geist.
  • The Spark and Calvin Fletcher’s | The Spark in downtown Speedway is known for good coffee + good community, while Calvin Fletcher’s has become a neighborhood staple since it opened in 2009, offering thoughtfully roasted coffee.
  • Bovaconti and Command Coffee | Bovaconti is a Fountain Square favorite in a historic location and features local roasters, while Command Coffee strives for world-class quality + top-of-the-line customer service — it also recently opened a second location on Monument Circle.
How it works

Beginning today, we will host several voting rounds within our newsletters and social channels to determine Indy’s best coffee shop. Who moves on is up to you. Vote for your favorites, and the coffee shop with more votes moves on. Simple as that. We’ll go until we have a champion, which will be announced in our Friday, March 29 newsletter. You will be able to vote once per round.

How to participate

Vote for the coffee shop you’d like to see advance to round two using this poll. You can vote for all four spots or as little as one. Once we count all the votes, we’ll share an updated bracket and new poll in an upcoming newsletter.

Less than 100 days out from the US Olympic Swimming Trials in Indy

A rendering of an Olympic-size pool in Lucas Oil Stadium
For the first time ever, the event will be staged on a football field with enough seating to fit ~30,000 people per session. | Rendering by USA Swimming
The USA Olympic Swim Trials — in partnership with USA Swimming + Indiana Sports Corp. — are less than 100 days away, and the nine-day event is being held right here in Indianapolis.

The trials, which will be the sole selection meet to determine the athletes to represent Team USA in Paris, will take place from Saturday, June 15 to Sunday, June 23.

The event will include 17 sessions of racing with three temporary pools installed over the football field at Lucas Oil Stadium. It will seat 30,000 fans, with an opening night goal to set the new world record for the largest swim meet in history.

Single-session tickets are available now and start at $15 — which will allow fans unprecedented access to any of the eight preliminary + nine finals sessions.

Additionally, the Indiana Convention Center will host USA Swimming’s Toyota Aqua Zone, an interactive fan-activation and retail area.

    From the editor
Indianapolis is an incredible host for sporting events. Prime example: NBA All-Star Weekend. I’m looking forward to seeing the city pull out all the stops to host another major sporting event. Plus, how cool will it be to see the football field turned into swimming pools?

Fun fact: This event will mark the 100-year anniversary since Indianapolis hosted the trials for the 1924 Olympic Games in Paris.
