If you like thick, doughy cookies, you’ll love The Cavity Factory’s bakes. | Video by @wwdeatnext
“Cookies need love, like everything does.” And there are some local bakers who’ve made it their mission to spread the love across the Circle City. Here are just a few of the cookies that warm our hearts (and our bellies).
The Cavity Factory | 1354 Shelby St.
After operating out of an iconic pink food truck for several years, The Cavity Factory finally opened its flagship location in April of this year. It’s been selling out almost daily since, thanks to flavors like lemon cheesecake, cosmic brownie, and the crookie: A fusion between a chocolate chip cookie and a croissant.
SALAMAT Cookies! | Pop-ups or store pick-up, varies by date
“Salamat” means “thank you” in Filipino — but it’s us who should be thanking this bakery. Its cookies utilize adventurous ingredients like pandan, ube, mango, and guyabano for unique and exciting tastes and textures.
SALAMAT Cookies! has become a fixture of local markets and food fests.

The latest news on Indy’s pursuit of a MLS soccer team

Following last month’s announcement from Mayor Hogsett that Indianapolis plans to pursue attracting a Major League Soccer (MLS) team, there’s been a whirlwind of chaos, controversy, and concurrences. Here are the latest updates:
On Monday night, the City-County Council voted 16 to 8 in favor of creating a Professional Sports Development Area (PSDA) to help fund a new soccer stadium downtown and attract an MLS expansion team. The special district is projected to generate a quarter of a billion dollars and will replace the already-approved district on the southwest side of downtown, where Keystone Group wants to build a mixed-use development + soccer stadium for Indy Eleven.
What’s next? The proposal will be sent back to the metropolitan development commission. If approved, the mayor will submit the PSDA plan to the state by the end of the month.

We asked, “What’s your dog’s name?” Here’s a very scientific report on what we found:
Names ending in a “E” sound reigned supreme. Pups on our list included Ellie, Remi, Moxie, Ollie, Maisy, and Uni (short for Unity).
Names that had a connection to natural elements were popular among you, such as Poppy, Holly, Pepper, and Wolfie Matthew — and mountain siblings Teton and Smoky.
A lot of your pups have normal human names, but some of them really tickled our funny bone — like Larry, Winston, and Everett Eugene.
We’re guessing some of you named your dogs after favorite fictional characters — like CareBear, Harley, Rocco, Cosette, Luna, and Ziggy. Or real people — we’re looking at you, John Wayne.
A few of you are fashion fans, with your dogs Coco and Burberry doing their best catwalk... err, dogwalk.
Finally, we did have a single intersection with US News & World Report’s official list of most popular pet names in Indianapolis, with one owner of a Cinnamon clocking in. We salute you, Cinnamon.
I didn’t name my dogs, as I came into their adult lives as the “spare human.” But my fiancé falls firmly in the “fictional characters” camp, having named them Esmeralda and Cinderella. Their names are weirdly fitting: We’ve got a spunky and sassy adventurer who hates being cooped up indoors, and a princess who lasts about 13 seconds outside before begging to be let in so she can go back to sleep on the couch.
