Much of outdoor life in Indy revolves around the White River — and next year, Fishers residents will have even more opportunities to access its waters + surrounding natural beauty.

Yesterday, the City of Fishers announced plans for Fishers White River Park, a 120-acre project located west of the intersection of East 96th Street and Allisonville Road.

The park will be funded by Gov. Holcomb’s Regional Economic Acceleration and Development Initiative (READI) program, which encourages regional collaboration + data-driven long-term planning to transform Indiana communities, attract talent, and improve quality of life for Hoosiers.

The White River region was awarded $20 million in READI 1.0 funding, and $4.7 million of that went to the Fishers White River Park project in 2022.

The park will include:
  • 5,000+ ft of riverfront access
  • 2.45 miles of trails, including a connection to Fishers Heritage Park at White River
  • Native landscaping, including a prairie restoration area
  • A kayak launch area
  • A creek stomping area
  • A disc golf course
  • A terraced rain garden
  • Two scenic boardwalks
  • Year-round restroom facilities
“Fishers White River Park is a transformational project that will significantly enhance connectivity across our city, offering our residents access to beautiful parkland,” Fishers Mayor Scott Fadness said. “This new park is a cornerstone of our vision to revitalize the Allisonville Road corridor, creating a vibrant and thriving community space everyone can enjoy.”

Groundbreaking is slated for fall 2024, with opening anticipated for summer 2025.

    🧨 Baby you’re a (safe) firework

Everything you need to know about Indy’s fireworks rules + regulations

Independence Day is next week, and skies across the nation will soon be lit up by beautiful firework displays. But if you’re orchestrating your own show, there are rules in place to keep you and your neighbors safe (and able to get a good night’s sleep).

Here’s when Indiana state law permits you to set off fireworks:
    • June 29-July 3 from 5 p.m. until two hours after sunset (roughly 11:15 p.m.)
    • July 4 from 10 a.m. to 12 a.m.
    • July 5-9 from 5 p.m. until two hours after sunset
Keep in mind that certain kinds of fireworks, including cherry bombs and silver salutes, are illegal. You can also spot fireworks that are being sold illegally by some key packaging giveaways, such as fireworks wrapped in brown paper or boxes without graphics or markings, instead of cellophane.

Our friends at WTHR have some tips to keep you safe while using fireworks, as well as the breakdown on fines for violations.
