How to make Indiana’s official cocktail

    INDYtoday: INDY_Abraham Lincoln portrait_JUL24

Did you know that Indiana has an official cocktail? And no, we know what you’re thinking — it’s not the St. Elmo’s shrimp one.

The Hoosier Heritage was established as Indiana’s official cocktail in 2015, as the result of a contest held by the Indiana State Museum. Here’s how to make it:
    • 1.5 oz bourbon or whiskey (the original recipe featured Knob Creek rye whiskey, in honor of Abraham Lincoln’s childhood home before moving to Indiana)
    • 1 oz apple cider
    • 1/2 oz lemon juice
    • 1.2 oz maple syrup
    • A dash of cayenne pepper on top
For non-drinkers, there’s no question that thanks to the infamous Indy 500 tradition, milk is also a perfectly acceptable Hoosier drink choice. And if that still isn’t your speed, tap into some water — declared in 2007 by Senate Resolution No. 20 as Indiana’s official beverage. Stay hydrated, Indy.
