🎁 To Indy, with love

For us? You shouldn’t have. We think living in Indy is the greatest gift of all, but it’s actually been on the receiving end of quite a few delightful donations. Check out these generous gifts given to the city.
Japanese Cherry Blossom trees | In 2012, the Circle City received 52 of these beautiful trees from Japan to honor the 100-year anniversary of when Japan gifted ~3,000 trees to Washington, DC. Members of the Japan-America Society of Indiana planted the trees in White River State Park. The stunning trees bloom every year, lasting one to two weeks. Our trees typically bloom in late March or early April.
Merci Train | After World War II, families across the US (including in Indy, South Bend, and Fort Wayne) donated food, clothing, and other items to families in France. Soon after, the French repaid the favor by sending gifts to the US. Indiana received the bugle that sounded the end of World War I, now is on display at the Indiana War Memorial. The Circle City also got the last flag flying in Le Havre after its destruction. The boxcar itself sits at the Allen County-Fort Wayne Historical Society.
These extraordinary gifts not only add character and value to our city but also show how generosity can have a lasting impact.
Did we miss something from your holiday list? Drop us a line and let us know what Indy gift you love the most.

Hey there readers! I’m Josh, one of the managers here at 6AM City. Don’t forget to do something nice for yourself this week. Could be a quick stretch, could be your favorite beverage (mine is an iced coffee, no matter the temperature). We’re our best selves when we treat ourselves best, after all.
