If you celebrate Christmas, you know that sooner or later you have to deal with that “Night of the Living Dead” tree in the corner. That doesn’t mean it’s dumpster-bound. Instead, we have some tips on how to put an old tree to good use.
Drop-off recycling
Marion County has several sites where residents can drop off their live trees for recycling. Drop-offs will be accepted until Friday, Jan. 31 from dawn until dusk.
Be sure to double check that you’ve removed your tree stand, ornaments, lights, and other decor first. Trees recycled at these locations will be used in soil blends and mulch.
Looking for a way to shake off the post-holiday blahs? Digs Garden Center is hosting a “Burning of the Boughs” this Friday, Jan. 10 to burn away negative thoughts with a ceremonial Christmas tree burning. You can drop off your trees at the entrance of Digs.

The Biden administration announced a $150 million grant to help pay for IndyGo’s Blue Line project. The rapid transit line is the last of three planned projects in Indy. It will run east-west, from IND on the west side to Cumberland on the east side. It’s scheduled to open in 2028. (WTHR)

Closing
Gallery Pastry announced the closing of its third and final location at 4573 N. College Ave. Owner Alison Keefer said the Gallery brand will live on as a private, exclusive catering service beginning in February. The shop’s final day of service will be Sunday, Jan. 12.
