Be-leaf it or not — although it may not feel like it outside, now is the perfect time to start working on your garden. Here’s a helpful guide for shopping seeds + doing routine maintenance so that when spring comes, your garden is ready to thrive.

Spring for seeds

Grab seeds for your springtime favorites that are so popular they tend to sell out come the thaw — like snap peas, specialty lettuces, and heirloom tomatoes. Check out these local spots:
Some plants for your garden can be seeded up to six weeks before the final frost — which The Old Farmer’s Almanac estimates will fall around Friday, April 25 this year. Use this tool to calculate when to sow.
Volunteers digging on Mass Ave.

Even if you don’t have your own garden to tend to, plenty of community volunteer opportunities will pop up in the spring.

After 38 years in business, Carmel Music Center announced it’s closing its doors in late February due to owner David Rennard retiring. The 105-year-old building has been sold to the owners of Chatham Home; we’ll let you know when we hear of their plans for the space. (IBJ)

Times like these call for comfort food — which for me, means a good ol’ peanut butter and jelly sandwich. If that sounds good to you too, but a trip to the grocery store isn’t the vibe, grab yours at PB&J Factory inside SKOSH. It’s also currently got a gooey pizza sandwich on its menu if you’re craving something savory.
