For richer or pour over, Indy’s coffee shops are what keep us going in the morning.
The Circle City has no shortage of masterful baristas, aromatic roasts, and foamy lattes — with several more shops recently opened. But if you’re having trouble deciding on a spot, gather some brews clues with our guide to some of the best coffee shops by side of town.
North side
Niyyah Coffee | 6160 N. Rural St.
The coffee spot’s newest location opened in November. Stop by the first floor of the Ayr Apartments for a taste of its winter drink menu + tres leches cakes.
Downtown
The Alchemist | 1660 Bellefontaine St.
This new cozy spot in the former West Fork Whiskey building is open for coffee service daily from 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. + cocktail service Wednesday to Sunday.
East side
Cafe Oztara | 1446 E. Washington St.
This new 4,000+ sqft coffee shop at the Damien Center’s campus is designed to be a sanctuary + gathering space for all, with locally-sourced coffee, espresso, tea, and smoothies, plus breakfast and lunch items.

The wait is over — and it was well worth it. Bovaconti’s new location in the Carmel Arts + Design District is open for business. The shop offers delicious coffee and pastries with the vibes to match. Pro tip: The location used to be an old bank, so make sure to check out the vault room.
Pets
There’s a new place to bring your furry friend in the event of a pet emergency. Veterinary Emergency Group (VEG) opened its first-ever 24/7 pet ER in Indiana, providing surgeries, ultrasounds, x-rays and more. It’s located at 1480 E. 86th St. in Nora and is open 24/7 — even on holidays.
Concert
The organizers of Rock the Ruins at Holliday Park are hosting a concert series at Broad Ripple Park. Forty5 announced it’s scheduled for Aug. 8-9 with rock bands Drive-By Truckers + Deer Tick sharing the stage on Saturday, Aug. 9. Performers for Friday, Aug. 8 haven’t been announced yet. (IBJ)
