News Notes

Civic

After outcry from residents, Mayor Hogsett and the City-County Council announced a plan to clear snow off all residential streets for the rest of the winter — if the snow amounts to four inches or more. Read the full statement. (WTHR)

Open

The wait is over — and it was well worth it. Bovaconti’s new location in the Carmel Arts + Design District is open for business. The shop offers delicious coffee and pastries with the vibes to match. Pro tip: The location used to be an old bank, so make sure to check out the vault room.

Pets

There’s a new place to bring your furry friend in the event of a pet emergency. Veterinary Emergency Group (VEG) opened its first-ever 24/7 pet ER in Indiana, providing surgeries, ultrasounds, x-rays and more. It’s located at 1480 E. 86th St. in Nora and is open 24/7 — even on holidays.

Concert

The organizers of Rock the Ruins at Holliday Park are hosting a concert series at Broad Ripple Park. Forty5 announced it’s scheduled for Aug. 8-9 with rock bands Drive-By Truckers + Deer Tick sharing the stage on Saturday, Aug. 9. Performers for Friday, Aug. 8 haven’t been announced yet. (IBJ)

Number

8,200. That’s how many more tickets IMS has sold for the Indy 500 compared to this time last year, which had already sold 10,000 more tickets than 2023. At the 100-day mark until race day, a grandstand sellout seems likely. (IndyStar)

Ranked

This is your sign to book a staycation. Ironworks Hotel and Bottleworks Hotel were ranked the No. 2 and No. 3 best hotels in Indiana respectively on the US News & World Report’s Best Hotels List. Both hotels also recently received the One MICHELIN Key distinction for their design, hospitality, and one-of-a-kind luxury stays.

Mansion Monday

House on a hill alert: A five bedroom, six bathroom home on an acre of land atop a hill recently hit the market. Check out the Arden neighborhood residence’s gazebo + outdoor entertainment area, large fireplace, and exercise room.

Sports

The Pacers have had three 15+ point comebacks this month — but that might actually be bad. Locked On host Tony East is joined by Jimmy Cook to break it all down + look at the big picture from the team’s “halfway” point.

    Edu

New year, new career goals? If leveling up your resume is on the agenda this year, the University of Indianapolis’ nationally-ranked graduate programs might be for you. Psst… UIndy offers the flexibility you need to advance your career — without it feeling like a second job.*

    The Buy

A really good pickleball paddle. It’s crafted with carbon fiber, making it highly durable and lightweight. Bonus: Level up your style on the court with these punny pickleball socks.

You may have noticed our coffee shop guide only includes businesses with an Indianapolis address, but we know there are lots more coffee shops to love around central Indiana — like Bovaconti in Carmel. Would you want us to do a coffee guide for surrounding areas like Fishers, Greenwood, etc.? Let us know. I’m happy to do a coffee crawl for ya.
