For safety reasons, it’s best to leave the jawdropping fireworks displays to the pros on July 4. | Photo by @thedroneguy317
If your neighborhood already sounds like a war zone, buckle up: Indy’s only gonna get louder + prouder as we celebrate the Fourth of July. If you’re orchestrating your own fireworks show, there are rules in place to keep you and your neighbors safe.
June 29-July 3 from 5 p.m. until two hours after sunset
July 4 from 10 a.m. to midnight
July 5-9 from 5 p.m. until two hours after sunset
It’s also important to check your local ordinances, as permitted times may vary.
If you observe someone setting off fireworks outside the legal times, you can call your local police department’s non-emergency number (dial 311 on a cell phone).
Certain kinds of fireworks, including cherry bombs + silver salutes, are illegal. You can also spot fireworks that are being sold illegally by key packaging giveaways, such as brown paper wrapping or boxes without graphics or markings.
