INDYtoday: INDY_Goodfellas Pizza_OCT23

You wanna pizza this? | Photo by @kingdoughindy

Sure, it’s only Monday, but we’re already planning for a saucy weekend.

Indianapolis Pizza Fest will take over Monument Circle from 12 to 6 p.m. this Saturday, Aug. 9, serving up sample slices, live music, games, and more.

Expect more than a citywide pizza party — this fest is a full-on flavor showdown. Local pizzerias will go head-to-head for the title of best pie in Indiana, judged by celebrity guests and hungry festivalgoers like you.

Bonus: It’s pizza with a purpose — a portion of the proceeds supports United Way of Central Indiana. Buy tickets.

News Notes

Development

The wait for Indianapolis City Market’s return just got longer. Due to financing issues with developers, the market is now expected to reopen in 2028 or later. City officials are seeking a new partner to help with the $15 million overhaul of the Indianapolis Catacombs. (Indianapolis Business Journal)

Eat

Mansion Monday

Indy history meets modern living in a newly listed 1896 Queen Anne Victorian on Alabama Street. Take a look inside the five-bedroom, five-bath home, which features colorful stained-glass windows, heated floors in the primary suite, and a screened-in porch overlooking its fully renovated backyard.

Number

10,752. That’s how many days there were between the release of “Happy Gilmore” back in 1996 and the recent long-awaited sequel. If you waited that long to hit up one of Indy’s stellar golf courses, your short game probably needs some work.

Try This

BeyoncĂ© ended her Cowboy Carter tour with a nostalgic surprise, reuniting Destiny’s Child to sing a medley of their greatest hits. While we couldn’t be there in Las Vegas when it happened, these karaoke joints around Indianapolis are a perfect way to sing along. (Variety)

Active

20%. That’s how many adults play team sports in the US — up from 11% in 2020. That means more potential pickleball partners if you want to play doubles. (Axios)
