News Notes

Mansion Monday

Architectural details date back more than 125 years in this newly listed residence on North Alabama Street. Take a look around the 5-bedroom, 4-bathroom home, featuring a front porch fit for coffee chats and a formal dining room ideal for hosting parties.

Eat

Lettuce celebrate. Bru Burger Bar makes the best burger in Indiana, according to Reader’s Digest. Bonus: Its Mass Ave location is a lovely spot to dine al fresco and people-watch.

Ranked

No. 1. That’s where Zionsville Community High School just ranked in a report of the best high schools in Indianapolis. Across the US, almost 18,000 schools were ranked using metrics like academic performance and college preparation. (US News & World Report)

The Word

Can you pronounce “Loogootee?” Don’t worry, you’re not alone. That’s the hardest place to pronounce in all of Indiana, according to a new study by Preply. Around Circle City, our street names are typically easier to say, and have plenty of history behind them.

Stat

54%. That’s the percentage of Americans who say they consume alcohol — the lowest number recorded since tracking began in 1939. If you’re part of the 46% taking a break from booze (but still want a delicious drink), peruse our list of Naptown’s alcohol-free sips.

Asked

“Just make sure if you fail, you did what you wanted to do.” Pop quiz — is this quote from Indy’s own David Letterman or Taylor Swift? Take a guess.

Pets

Forget Whiskers and Mittens — Charlie is the most popular cat name in Indiana, according to a new study. Have a better moniker in mind for a feline friend? Meet adoptable cats at IndyHumane who still need a name — and a home. (Newsweek)

Sports

Could Indiana football pull off another College Football Playoff run? Go beyond the scoreboard for the biggest stories on the Indiana Hoosiers with Locked On’s daily, team-focused podcasts.

Travel

Psst — you might be overpaying for flights. Get flight alerts to dream destinations during Going’s biggest sale ever, with 53% off memberships until Sunday, August 31.*

Are you a glass-half-full or glass-half-empty person? Either way, nothing cures the Monday blues like a craft brew.

Hold our beer while we walk you through Circle City’s breweries — you’ll be feeling hoptomistic in no time.

St. Joseph Brewery | The historic church this microbrewery calls home was built in 1879. It pays cheeky homage to its unique history with brews like “St. Juicifer” and “Pew Buster.”

Kismetic Beer Company | This female-owned, BYO food spot opened in 2022. It focuses on lower ABV and lager styles served in a chic, retro-future taproom.

Books & Brews | This brewery is perfect for those who like their literary-themed ale with a side of $3 used books. It also hosts weekly open mic nights and on Wednesdays and Sundays, kids eat free.
