Ladies and gentlemen, we’re officially 100 days away from the 106th running of the Indianapolis 500. To get you geared up for race day, we’re sharing some Indy 500 history + events coming back to the track this year.

🏆 The history

The Borg-Warner Trophy is one of the most recognizable prizes in sports + is one of the most constant pieces to the Indianapolis 500 — aside from the racetrack, of course. Last year, the trophy celebrated its 85th anniversary, living through three different Speedway ownership groups, one World War, and 82 500-Mile races.

On the trophy you’ll see quarter-sized sculpted faces of the winners with space to accommodate each Indy 500 winner through 2033. The trophy is now valued at $3.5 million — and no, the winners don’t get to keep it. They get a miniature version of the trophy.

🐍 The Snake Pit

You may have seen us mention this already but the Snake Pit is back this year, and the lineup has just been announced. Dutch DJ Martin Garrix will headline the Snake Pit’s return, along with fellow EDM stars deadmau5, Galantis, Steve Aoki, and Yellow Claw.

Martin Garrix previously performed as part of the 100th Indy 500 in 2016. Deadmau5 and Steve Aoki are also Snake Pit veterans.
General admission + VIP tickets to the Snake Pit are now available — with a valid Indy 500 ticket required for entry. IMS also recently announced that coolers and most outside drinks will no longer be allowed in the Snake Pit.
