If you haven’t checked out the number of resources your local library offers, you’re long overdue.

  1. For Hoosiers with a green thumb, try visiting the Seed Library. From household herbs to giant pumpkins, more than 10 locations have seeds shelved away to grow in your garden. Don’t have a yard? The library offers a variety of seeds that thrive in containers.
  2. Want to learn how to print that 3D model idea you have? You can learn all about 3D printing by participating in a workshop at the Central Library’s Makerspace + touring their equipment. If you’d like to have a 1-on-1 experience, you can also book an appointment with a library staff member.
  3. If you work for or volunteer at a nonprofit, you can get grant writing assistance anytime. Just ask a librarian + utilize the Foundation Collection, where you can find grant maker directories, books on fundraising, and electronic databases.
  4. Take a class. From tech training to English-speaking circles, a number of branches offer free programs to further your education, no matter what your age is. They have an ongoing list of programs on their website for easy reference.
  5. Love books so much you could marry them? Have your wedding at the Central Library. You can host your ceremony in the glass-encased atrium + dance the night away in the East Garden. You can also rent a space at Central for other events, including the Simon Reading Room.

Pro tip: Don’t forget to stop at the top floor + enjoy incredible views of the city while you’re there.

Forget credit cards — your library card can sometimes be all you need to start that vegetable patch you’ve always wanted, boost your chances at getting a grant, or learn how to code.
