Just before the new year, the City of Carmel announced the next phase of expansion of the popular Monon Greenway that will take shape next spring.

The $13 million project will widen the Greenway from 14 to 140 ft between Walnut Street and City Center Drive — which is south of where the previous expansion happened in the Midtown area.

This project will feature new playgrounds and public gathering spaces, and will be located between the Great American Songbook Museum to the west and a redevelopment project — envisioned to include a food hall — to the east.

The money for the project will come from bonds with $500,000 from the CRC Urban Parks Fund, which will partially cover the cost of the playground.

The city expects to put this project out for bid in the spring of 2024 + estimates it will be completed by the end of 2025.
