Another way to celebrate would be to visit the International Marketplace and support local restaurants or shop Asian cuisine ingredients at Saraga.

May is Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month + it’s been celebrated to recognize the contributions and influence of Asian Americans and Pacific Islander Americans to the history, culture, and achievements of the US for the last 44 years.

Here are some local ways to join in the celebration:

  • Visit the Indiana Historical Society (450 W. Ohio St.) for Heritage Days and Nights on Saturday, May 20, Tuesday, May 23 + Saturday, May 27 to see the museum’s traveling exhibit, “Be Heard: Asian Experiences in Indiana,” and a display of cultural outfits representing multiple nations and regions of Asia — plus experience additional activities like performances and arts and crafts.
  • The International School of Indiana is the only school in the state with full immersion in Mandarin. Each summer it hosts programs for children + registration is open now for summer camps running weekly from Tuesday, June 20 to Friday, July 14.
  • The Asian American Alliance is an organization empowering Asian-Americans to lead in community and business in central Indiana. You can support our Asian-American neighbors by donating or you can learn more and become a member.
