Carmel hosting inaugural Cherry Blossom Festival

The festival will serve as an opportunity to rededicate the Japanese Garden at Carmel City Hall, a serene space completed in 2009 as part of the 15th anniversary of the sister city recognition.

Did you know Carmel’s sister city is Kawachinagano, Japan?

The City of Carmel announced it’s hosting its first-ever Cherry Blossom Festival in celebration of Japanese culture, while recognizing its sister city — which was designated as Carmel’s sister city in 1994.

The festival will feature activities for all ages, including Japanese arts such as calligraphy and origami, kimono try-ons, drumming, and more.

Guests will also enjoy an assortment of Japanese cuisine from a lineup of local food vendors like Kizuki Ramen & Izakaya, Hanami Sushi & Sake Bar, Sakura Express, and Mochi Joy.

The festival will be held on Sunday, May 4 from 1 to 4 p.m. in the Japanese Garden on the grounds of Carmel City Hall. The event is free to attend.
