If you live in Broad Ripple — or have driven through the area — you’ve probably seen the construction that has been in progress since July. So what is the project + when will it be done?
Broad Ripple Park is getting a new family center that is expected to be complete by the end of 2022.
The new center has been in the works since the Broad Ripple Park Master Plan was unveiled in 2018, based on community feedback.
The former 11,000 sqft facility was demolished + the new center is part of a $70 million renovation plan that will include:
- An upgraded fitness area
- An indoor running + walking track
- A children’s play area
- A health clinic operated by Community Health Network
- Administrative offices for Indy Parks + multi-purpose program rooms
The park serves an average of 337,000 park visitors per year, and the new family center will allow it to provide more versatile programming for neighbors of all ages.
The project has overcome COVID restrictions + a lawsuit that sought to halt the project, with some arguing that park land should not be used by a private hospital.
Park officials said the agreement with Community Health Network allows them to underwrite the costs of running the park, while adding new amenities.
