If youâve ever wanted to take a look inside some of the beautiful houses on your block (without being arrested), you might be interested in embarking on one of Indyâs many home + garden tours.
How do they work?
No, you donât just let yourself in. Typically, youâll purchase your tickets in advance online or at one of the tour stops. Proceeds from the tours tend to go back into the community in some way, whether itâs to preserve the Benton House in Irvington or to support efforts to activate + revitalize the area. From there, youâll usually be free to roam in and out of the participating homes, which should be marked.
In the coming weeks
Now that youâve got the 411, here are a few tours to get you started:
Broad Ripple Home Tour | Sat., Sept. 17 | Time + price TBD | Youâll be able to learn facts about each home and its residents, as well as take away decoration and renovation ideas at this tour.

This would be a huge upgrade. | Rendering via Damien Center
Yesterday, Damien Center announced its Capital Campaign with a goal of raising $4 million for a new headquarters on the corner of Washington + Oriental streets.
Due to its new + expanded programs, its staff has doubled and its current space is now too small. It plans to build a space that will enable it to meet critical gaps in existing services and allow it to offer ophthalmology, dental care, and other key services.
If youâre able to donate, visit Damien Centerâs new website.
THE WRAP
Todayâs issue was written by Anna.
Editorâs pick: I had the opportunity to go to the Cottage Home neighborhoodâs home tour in 2018 with my mom + we had a little too much fun scoping out all the different design decisions and funky colors the area had to offer. I canât wait to go to my own neighborhood of Irvingtonâs tour this weekend. Whoâs with me?
