One of our favorite ways to beat the freeze â and keep our belts in place during holiday dinners? Joining a holiday-themed run.
Here are a few trots around town where you can satisfy your need for speed this winter.
Turkey trots
Drumstick Dash | Thursday, Nov. 27 | 9 a.m. | Broad Ripple | $39 | Move your feet so others can eat. Choose from a 4.3 mile or 2.6 mile course.
Indianapolis Turkey Trot 5K | Thursday, Nov. 27 | 8:30 a.m. | Crown Hill Cemetery | $20 | No planning ahead needed here. Registration takes place the morning of your walk or run, and all proceeds benefit the Crown Hill Heritage Foundation.
Turkey Burn | Thursday, Nov. 27 | 9-11 a.m. | Freedom Park, Greenwood | $15+ | Gather your family, friends, and arch rivals for this fun 5K for adults and kids in support of The Refuge.
The Gravy Chase benefiting The Boys & Girls Club of Boone County takes place in both Zionsville and Lebanon.
Gravy Chase | Thursday, Nov. 27 | 8:30 a.m. | Main + Cedar Street, Zionsville | $40+ | The race is entering its ninth year as a Thanksgiving Day tradition through historic downtown Zionsville with a 2.2-mile walk or 4-mile run to benefit the Boys & Girls Club of Boone County.
Gobble Gallop 5K | Thursday, Nov. 27 | 8-10 a.m. | Hendricks Regional Health YMCA, Avon | $40 | Give back one gallop at a time in support of YMCA memberships and programs.
The after finishing the GlĂŒhwein Gallop participants get a complimentary serving of beer, GlĂŒhwein, or hot chocolate.

Polar Bear Winter Classic | Saturday, Feb. 28 | 8:30-11 a.m. | Fowling Warehouse | $40+ | Join this 43rd annual race with a unique twist. Opt for a 5K run, a 5-mile run, or The Bear (5K + 5 miles) â the challenge allows you to run both distances for a total of 8.1 miles.

âIt Happened One Weekendâ is happening this weekend.
The film stars two Hoosiers who spend the weekend walking around Indy, talking about life. Shot in black-and-white, Nuvo called it âa love letter to romantic comedies and the Circle City itself.â If you see the movie, youâll recognize spots like Mass Ave. + Fountain Square, which give the film âa warm backdrop.â If youâre unable to see this film at The Living Room or the Glendale Landmark, you can stream it online.

Editorâs pick: While weâre on the subject of dog parks, does anyone out there have a good lead on a place to socialize leash-aggressive pups? I donât want to call her out, but my dog Babs gets a bit grouchy when she sees other animals. They say you canât teach an old dog (13) new tricks, but Iâm hoping one of you will let me know of a place to try out.
