Sorry, but — NO ADULTS ALLOWED — this one is for the kids. Grown-up, please hand this over to your little one. Got it, kiddo? Let’s plan a family day together. Here’s a fun schedule for you to try.
Morning
Be a chef and cook breakfast for the adults at home. The night before, ask your family to choose from one of these recipes. Don’t be afraid to ask for help if any of the instructions seem confusing.
While you eat, talk about your plan for the day. Ask your family to help you prepare a backpack with things you’ll need. We suggest bringing:
If you have time before heading to lunch, check out the family area of the Eiteljorg Museum.
Afternoon
For lunch, head to Baby’s and try the yummy mini burgers. After you’ve filled your belly, spend the afternoon exploring the Indianapolis Zoo. We love feeding the giraffes, watching the dolphin show, and riding the White River Junction Train.
Evening
Wrap up the day with a family dinner. Head to one of our local farmers’ markets to pick out foods you can make together. Over dinner, talk about everything you did today. Ask questions like:
What was something new you learned?
What was something funny that happened?
What would we do differently if we did that again?
What do you definitely want to do again? (And again and again…)
Grown-ups — take pictures along the way and share them with us. Also, send us more family friendly recommendations and we may just feature them in an upcoming newsletter.

With these steps, you’ll be a grill master in no time. | Photo by Dave Pluimer
It’s officially spring, INDY — which means it’s time for chilling and grilling. Check out these six simple steps from St. Elmo Steak House to step up your grill game this spring.
1. Select a great steak: Choose a steak with a high amount of marbling that is at least an inch thick, like ribeyes, strips, and fillets.
2. Set meat out and season: Pull your steaks out of the fridge 20-25 minutes prior to grilling and season liberally (we recommend St. Elmo Seasoning — or add a kick of heat with St. Elmo Blackened Seasoning). Did you know? Steaks closer to room temperature cook more evenly and create better grill marks.
3. Get the grill hot: Most grills need to preheat for at least 10-15 minutes. A hot grill is necessary to sear in those juices during the first few minutes of grilling. Once the grill is hot, adjust the heat to avoid charring.
4. Only touch the steak four times: Place the steak on the grill at a 45-degree angle. Halfway through grilling the first side, rotate it 45 degrees to create diamond grill marks. Once finished on that side, turn it over and repeat the process.
5. Let it rest: After grilling to your desired temperature, plate the meat and allow it to rest for at least three minutes before serving. This will allow the juices to settle in, resulting in a juicier and tastier steak.
6. Enjoy: Pour your favorite drink and savor every bite. You’re officially a grill master.*
Carmel plans to redevelop Midtown and City Center and transform office buildings and large parking lots into neighborhoods with homes and retail space — which could take many years to be complete. The first of the projects is planned at 96th Street, near the southeastern intersection of U.S. 31 and I-465. (IndyStar)
Kroger is ready to make the move, according to reports. After calling off a plan to relocate five years ago, Fishers’ high-traffic supermarket will move its store in the Fishers Crossing retail center at Allisonville and 116th Street to the Fishers Station retail center at the northeast corner of the busy intersection. Wellness
What’s in: red light therapy. What’s out: forms of treatment that are painful and invasive. Red light therapy is non-invasive and painless, and evidence suggests it may be able to ease body aches, heal sun damage, and build collagen.
