Downtown Indy Fourth Fest | 6-10 p.m. | 500 N. Pro tip: The best viewing spots are the Indiana War Memorial grounds + American Legion Mall.

There’s something new at the Indianapolis Zoo.
Recently, the zoo unveiled something they’ve been working on for a long time: a brand-new entry experience, which allows visitors to be totally immersed into nature from their first steps inside.
INDOT announced there will be lane restrictions on the west side of I-465 for pavement patching work. The project is scheduled to begin on Monday, July 10 at 9 p.m. and is expected to be completed by Tuesday, July 25. Get detour info. (CBS4)

The Broad Ripple Village Association announced that all restaurant and bar owners will be closing their doors at 1 a.m. every night, following recent violence — effective immediately. BRVA said many businesses plan to discontinue day parties or use of promoters to host events. (WISH)

The Indiana DNR is looking for hundreds of volunteers to help operate its State Fair Fishin’ Pond. Volunteers will receive free admission to the fair and a T-shirt. Learn more about the opportunity. (WISH)

A heavy layer of haze caused by smoke from Canadian wildfires has prompted a series of Air Quality Advisories for Indianapolis and a significant portion of Central Indiana.
The City of Indianapolis declared yesterday through the rest of the day today (Thursday, June 29), “Knozone Action Days,” meaning the air is considered unhealthy + Hoosiers should avoid time outdoors as much as possible.
Thursday’s Knozone Action Day will mark the 12th declaration so far in Indianapolis this year.
Health risks
Fine particle pollutants can deeply penetrate the lungs. Exposure has been linked to worsened asthma, respiratory issues, and premature death in individuals with heart or lung disease.
Stay/get inside if you’re experiencing:

Itchy eyes
Irritated sinuses
Headaches
Scratchy throat
Vulnerable individuals — people with heart or lung disease, older adults, and children — are especially advised to limit outdoor activities, and reduce strenuous exertion.
