Did you know? Since 1982, the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) has volunteered to hand check each and every bulb on 52 individual garland strands hung at the Indiana State Fairgrounds for the Circle of Lights®, ensuring a safer, more beautiful event.
That’s 4,784 individual lights, if you’re counting.
This year’s light check is happening today, and Hoosiers can see the lights in all their glory on Tuesday, Nov. 24 at Monument Circle.

Former Georgetown Cinema to be transformed as part of Lafayette Square development
Alamo Drafthouse is renowned for its dedication to preserving the cinema experience. | Redering via Alamo Drafthouse Cinema/Sojos Capital
This morning, Indianapolis-based firm Sojos Capital broke ground on an acclaimed cinema eatery that will be opening its first Indiana location.
The new Alamo Drafthouse Cinema will be located in the former Georgetown Cinema at 3898 Lafayette Rd. and will feature a 14-screen theater with nearly 1,000 seats. It will have a scratch-made food menu, local beers on tap, and craft cocktails all delivered to guest’s seats.
This is the first commercial project of Sojos Capital’s master plan to redevelop Lafayette Square Mall and much of the surrounding neighborhood.
The theater is just one of the many facilities planned for the Window to the World project that has been pushed back due to delays. The plan also includes a sporting complex, dog park, art center, and residential living.
Alamo Dafthouse Cinema is expected to open in spring 2024.
I’ve been dying to try Beurre Sec’s pastries, but I just haven’t been quick enough. It’s my goal to finally get my hands on the stunning pastries during the pop-up event at Nuova Vita Vintage on November 5. It’s been a minute since I’ve visited the vintage shop, so it’s the perfect time to support two local businesses at once.
