Breaking down everything planned for Central State development

You may have heard spooky stories from the Central State Campus this week, but now that Halloween is over — we’re talking about the stories that will give this area new life.
Since the city purchased the 160-acre site from the state in 2004, it’s been working to redevelop the campus. Over the last year or so, there have been several development plans announced for this area.
The Plaza at Central Greens
Back in April, we shared that Carmel-based development firm T&H Investments planned to spend $36 million to build a 122-unit affordable housing project on the campus.
Construction is currently in progress and things are moving along on the multi-use development, which will include:
Three apartment buildings (three stories with 39 units, each ranging from $715 to $1,150 per month)
An amenity center that will feature a fitness area, a community gathering space, and a computer room
A retail building
A playground and pond
100+ parking spaces in a surface lot behind the apartments
The project is expected to complete by mid- to late-2024.
Proposed concept for NXG Youth Motorsports campus

NXG Youth Motorsports
In August, IBJ reported that NXG Youth Motorsports Inc., a local motorsports not-for-profit, plans to acquire more than two acres at the Central State campus to transform the former State Highway Garage complex at 50 N. Tibbs Ave. into its new headquarters.
The organization — which focuses on helping children and teens learn about the motorsports industry through karting, classes, and other programs — expects the new space will give it the opportunity to expand its programming.
The campus would offer a computer lab and an area to teach youth how to detail cars, and the main building would contain new offices for NXG, along with spaces for remote-control cars and racing-simulation machines.
It also hopes to create a competition plaza at the center of the campus consisting of two tracks, which would be used for remote-control car races and drone soccer.

Día de los Muertos, or the Day of the Dead, is a Mexican holiday traditionally observed Nov. 1-2. During this time, families and friends make ofrendas (altars) to honor ancestors and loved ones who have died.
Here are a few ways that you can still get involved in Indy.
Day of the Dead | Thursday, Nov. 2 | 6-8 p.m. | Garfield Park Arts Center, 2432 Conservatory Dr., Indianapolis | Free | Check out cultural music, dance performances, and storytelling, and create Mexican-inspired crafts. Traditional outfits and face paint are encouraged.
More Día De Los Muertos Fun | Thursday, Nov. 2 | 10 a.m.-5 p.m. | Eiteljorg Museum, 500 W. Washington St., Indianapolis | Museum admission | Come in during the last day of this exhibit featuring beautiful community-created ofrendas, and add a note for your own departed loved one.
Tres Souls: Celebrating Día De Los Muertos | Saturday, Nov. 4 | 8 p.m. | The Tarkington at the Center for the Performing Arts, 3 Carter Green, Carmel | $25 | Relive the vintage sounds and songs of the 1940s-1960s, as stylized during the Golden Era of Mexican Cinema.

A common concern with the NXG Youth Motorsports headquarters seems to be whether or not the campus will create more noise. The tracks would be used for remote-control car races, so this shouldn’t create as much as noise as full-sized carts. NXG would be taking its carts to other tracks for in-car lessons for its drivers.
