🏢 Be the broker: Vacant office spaces

Be the broker: Which vacant office spaces would you like to see become affordable housing?

Have you noticed some of the empty office space around town? Office vacancies were at ~22% as of June 2023. Compare that number to the national office vacancy rate, which was 17.8% as of September 2023. One possible use for vacant offices? Affordable housing.

Recently, the White House released a new plan to convert commercial buildings into residential housing — affordable housing in particular. Resources will be made available from 20+ programs across multiple agencies, including the Department of Transportation and the Department of Housing and Urban Development.

We’re talking below-market loans, grants, and tax credits... all available to help take advantage of preexisting buildings to make more affordable housing.

Coffee Mug Warmer, $34.99 | “I’m a slow sipper, so my drinks always get cold before I can finish them. This cute and practical mug warmer would be the perfect addition to my work setup.”

🎁 Shea’s picks

Winter Walk Candle, $23 | “Because I have two mischevious cats and two destructive dogs in my house, I have a fake Christmas tree — so I’m always burning a ton of forest-scented candles in winter to pretend otherwise.”

AirTag Cat Collar, $7.99 | “One of my cats is obsessed with going outside, but he likes to wander and I don’t trust him to know his way home yet. This collar (plus an AirTag) would let me give him his freedom while still enjoying peace of mind.”

The last time I went to a YPCI Happy Hour was at Monon 30, but I remember having a fun time and meeting lots of cool people. You don’t have to be a member to go to their happy hours. It’s a great way to make new friends, new professional connections, and just get out on a Thursday evening.
