Where to warm up with a bowl of soup in Indianapolis, IN

It’s soup season, Indy. There’s nothing better than a hot bowl of soup on a cold winter day — or when you’re feeling a little under the weather.

Here are some places around Indy that cook up “good soup.”

Small Batch Soups by Soupremacy, 7 E. Market St.

This local business began in 2014 and aims to provide fast, delicious, and healthy soup that doesn’t come from a chain restaurant or a frozen bag. It has 100+ recipes it rotates through each week. City Editor Nicole used to DoorDash soups from them when she worked in an office downtown.

Subito, 34 N. Delaware St.

This takeout lunch spot, in the heart of downtown Indianapolis, bakes its signature Garda rolls and soft rolls from scratch each morning and has a wide variety of 60+ soups that change daily.

Shapiro’s Delicatessen, 808 S. Meridian St.

This Circle City classic has been serving up Kosher-style deli classics since 1905. Try its cabbage borscht soup, matzo ball soup, or stews.

INDY_Cafe Patachou_soup_DEC2023

City Editor Nicole’s go-to at Cafe Patachou was an omelet, but now it’s the turkey chili.

Goose the Market, 2503 N. Delaware St.

The menu changes daily, so stop in for the soup of the day — recent rotations have been broccoli cheddar + a pork, lamb, potatoes, and veggie soup.

Cafe Patachou, Multiple locations

All-day lunch at this Indy icon consists of the choice between tomato artichoke soup (which has been served daily since 1989), turkey chili, or matzo ball soup available on Fridays.

John’s Famous Stew, 1146 Kentucky Ave.

This old-school eatery + bar dishes up beef stew, chili, and other hearty American comfort-food classics.

Did we miss your favorite spot? Let us know.

We’re officially two weeks into 2024, Indy. Now’s a good time to check-in with you and see how your New Year’s resolutions are going so far.

It’s also not too late to start a new goal — the first week of the year doesn’t count in our eyes anyways. Need some inspo? Here are some of our readers’ resolutions for 2024.

“1. Save enough for a high yield savings account. 2. Pay off wife’s student loans.”

“Declutter.”

“Run three 5Ks, read more books (including nonfiction), volunteer 24 hours this year, write 24 positive reviews.”

“Continue to work on myself mentally + physically.”

“To go on at least one road trip or flying trip at a moment’s notice.”

Exercise.”

“Clear out house of unnecessary/accumulated things and donate. Organize remaining things. Simplify our lives.”

From the editor
I’ve been in such a soup mood lately — hence why I wrote this soup roundup. Winter is also ramen + pho season in my eyes, so last night I went to Eating Fresh on College Avenue and ordered a big bowl of chicken pho. It was exactly what I wanted.
