We all know that the Circle City has a vibrant art scene — and we’re not just talking about Newfields or The Circle City Industrial Complex. One of our all-time favorite galleries? Indy itself.

Naptown is home to a number of meaningful murals and street art pieces. Today, we’re sharing where to find pieces that really paint a picture of our city.

Caitlin Clark, 1825 W. 18th St. | By Kwazar Martin
A mural of Caitlin Clark went up on the city’s west side ahead of the draft in April and is among other portraits of people who inspire the local artist. Clark’s mural is next to one of Indiana Pacers star Tyrese Haliburton.

Black House Cafe, 1122 Shelby St. | By Pamela Bliss
In the heart of Fountain Square lies the Black House Café — a spooky deviation from ordinary coffee shops. It’s sure to draw in caffeine lovers + horror fans with its haunting exterior murals, local horror-themed artwork, and the Chucky doll.

Keepers of Culture, Stutz Building | By Ashley Nora
The 90-by-40 ft, 3D mural at the corner of Senate Avenue and 11th Street is a monument to Indianapolis’ Black culture. It features the faces of eight Black Hoosiers and was unveiled as part of the first BUTTER Fine Art Fair by GANGGANG.

These murals are growing like weeds in an alley on the north side of Indy. They started popping up in the summer of 2019 thanks to a couple of neighbors looking to spread a little joy.

This local hospitality group has a story worth sharing

ICYMI, Clancy’s Hospitality’s award-winning supper club concept, The Fountain Room, recently made People and OpenTable’s list of The 50 Most Beautiful Restaurants in America — and that’s just one of the major accomplishments this hospitality group has to be proud of.

Dating back a century, The Fountain Room once served as the site of the largest Coca-Cola bottling plant worldwide. Pretty cool, right?

Let’s explore a few milestones through Clancy’s history:
  • 1965 | Clancy’s Hamburgers opens in Noblesville before expanding to 30+ units
  • 1982 | Grindstone Charley’s casual American eatery is born
  • 1990 | Michaelangelo’s Italian Bistro is introduced
  • 1995 | Houlihan’s opens downtown
  • 2018 | Grindstone Public House opens in the Castor Building
  • 2019 | Grindstone on the Monon joins Westfield
Psst... Here’s what happened during the last five years (hint: it includes a bustling food hall + an accolade).

Today, Clancy’s is committed to delivering top-notch hospitality through several restaurant concepts led by an award-winning leadership team — sounds pretty delicious to us.

A few more of my favorite murals are the peaches at Glutes 317, the Indianapolis mural at Hotel Indy, and of course the wall at Bovaconti in Fountain Square. If you’re looking for even more of a mural scavenger hunt around Indy, check out @indy.streetart.
