U-Haul has released its 2024 mid-year report on migration trends, tracking the origins of U-Haul trucks arriving in the 25 most populated cities in the US, including Indianapolis. Let’s take a look at who’s moved into our city from where — and if you’re new around here, we’ve got even more to share.
The moving trends
So, where are folks coming from? According to U-Haul, here are the top three metropolitan areas outside our state that people are moving to Indy from:

Labor Day — an annual federal holiday, first designated in 1894, that honors the contributions of workers in America. Visit Monument Circle for a special tribute presentation on the AES building at 9, 10, and 11 p.m.
Development
The Capital Improvement Board plans to acquire downtown’s Pan Am Tower for $10.5 million, as part of the ongoing development project for the 38-story Signia hotel and convention center expansion. It’s the only part of the plaza that wasn’t owned by the city or CIB. (IBJ)
Hoosier
Former US Senator and Indianapolis Mayor Richard Lugar will be memorialized with a statue in the plaza named after him. The Richard Lugar Monument will be unveiled at 10 a.m. tomorrow in a public event at Bicentennial Plaza. (IBJ)

If you watched the Pacers last season, you saw T.J. McConnell’s endless energy and hustle, which helped fuel the Blue and Gold’s run in the Eastern Conference Finals. According to ESPN, he’s sticking around with a four-year, $45 million contract extension. (WTHR)
Community
Local CICOA Aging & Disability Resource Center is donating 500 Ring doorbell cameras to seniors and people with disabilities in central Indiana. The doorbells will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis and will come with a lifetime subscription. (WRTV)

Indiana Humanities announced it’s launching an inaugural literary festival titled “Proof: A Midwest Lit Fest” that will give you proof thatIndiana is a great place to be a writer, reader, and lover of all things literary.
The free event will feature:
A book fair with local booksellers
Conversations about the literary Midwest
Local and regional author readings
Opportunities to connect with publishers and literary magazines
Workshops led by experienced writers
Bookish activities for all ages
Food, drink, music, games, and prizes
It will be held at Harrison Center for the Arts on Saturday, Oct. 5 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. A full schedule will be released in early September + the event is free to attend, but registration in advance is recommended.
