City Editor Shea here. As a foodie, I’ve spent years bookmarking cool new culinary confections I find on social media — only to discover they’re available at one tiny shop halfway across the world.

Fortunately, things are changing around here, with lots of trendy, Insta-ready foods popping up around Indy. Here are a handful you should add to your to-eat list.

Korean corn dog | Spotted at Mochinut, CM Korean Fried Chicken, Korn’s (inside Saraga International Grocery)
This fever dream of a treat is basically a corn dog (or cheese dog) that you can have encrusted with crispy potatoes, ramen, Hot Cheetos and more, with dipping sauce on the side. I ate it in my car in the parking lot, tears silently streaming down my face.

News Notes

Civic

The 2025 Indiana Legislative Session kicked off yesterday — and since this is a budget year, lawmakers are facing tough decisions about programs + taxes. Here’s what’s on their agenda. (WTHR)

Closing

It’s a tough winter for Lawrence. Just weeks after Triton Brewing Co. folded, Porter Books & Bread announced it’s also closing its doors. Friday, Jan. 31 will be its last day of business — be sure to stop by before then for one last Mr. Darcy or Vonnegut.

Seasonal

With the holiday season behind us, the Circle of Lights will be going on hiatus soon. Catch it on Monument Circle before the 4,784 multi-colored lights switch off this Saturday, Jan. 11.

Open

The Indy area’s 12th YMCA opened its doors at 874 Virginia Rose Ave. in Westfield on Saturday. With an Olympic-sized pool, indoor track, gym, and exercise classrooms, we’re sure you will find many ways to have a good time. (WISH)

Real Estate

There’s no better time to take on house projects than when the winter weather has you... well, stuck at home. Get some inspiration at the 103rd Annual Indianapolis Home Show, returning to the Indiana State Fairgrounds Friday, Jan. 17 through Sunday, Jan. 26. (WISH)

Plan Ahead

On MLK Day (Monday, Jan. 20), the Indiana Historical Society is celebrating Dr. King’s legacy with free admission + themed activities. Guests can design shopping bags for Charity Cares Clothing Closet, collaborate on a community mural, and watch Dr. King’s world-changing speeches in the theater.

The Wrap

Today’s edition by: Shea

INDYtoday: INDY_Bravas Fort Wayne brunch crunchwrap_JAN25
Hungry for more unique foods? Take a weekend trip up to Fort Wayne and stop at Bravas for brunch. A few days ago, I tried their breakfast crunch wrap — sausage, eggs, lettuce, tomato, a crispy tortilla, a massive homemade hash brown, and their signature spicy sauce all wrapped up in a pocket of pure heaven.
