Trendy foods you should be trying around Indy this year

It seems like there’s a new viral TikTok food every day now. Here’s where to find some of City Editor Shea’s favorites.

City Editor Shea here. As a foodie, I’ve spent years bookmarking cool new culinary confections I find on social media — and then discovering that they’re only available at one tiny shop in Australia or Dubai or somewhere that’s very much not Indy.

Fortunately, things are changing around here, with lots of trendy, Insta-ready foods popping up around the city. Here are a handful that are delicious to both the eyes + the stomach that you should add to your to-eat list.

This treat tastes like a fever dream from the brain of 8-year-old Shea in the best possible way. Basically, this is a corn dog (or cheese dog) that you can have encrusted with crispy potatoes, ramen, Hot Cheetos and more, with dipping sauce on the side. I ate it in my car in the parking lot, tears silently streaming down my face.

Did I drive through seven inches of snow to try chocolate ice cream nestled in a warm, fluffy, cloud-like waffle this week? Yes, I did, and only God can judge me.

We’re not sure how the French feel about the crookie — we just know that we love it.

Ever thought to yourself, “Man, I wish I had a croissant right now... but also, a chocolate chip cookie?” Then you’ll love The Cavity Factory’s ooey-gooey take on the viral TikTok confection. In addition to the original crookie, the bakery sometimes offers a twist version, like the Butterfinger crookie.

INDYtoday: INDY_TeeJay's Sweet Tooth donut ice cream sandwich_JAN25

TeeJay’s is always adding new sweet treats to their menu, like ice cream nestled in a cotton candy cloud.

When I left California, I feared I would never see another ice cream donut sandwich again. But thanks to owners Taylor and Jerome (both, ironically, dental hygienists), I can still enjoy melty ice cream sandwiched in between warm glazed donuts or Fruity Pebble Rice Krispies Treats.

Did I miss a spot serving up one of these dizzying delicacies? Or is there another trendy food I should be trying? Let me know.
