Prominent towers and turrets — see the The Pink Palace from “Coraline”
Large and/or stained glass windows — like Whipstaff Manor in “Casper”
Let’s step through the creaky front doors of a few buildings in Indy we think fit the haunted house bill.
The Johnson House, 5631 University Ave.
This Gothic Revival Victorian home sits right in the heart of Irvington. Built in 1876, it features a looming turret, six ornate fireplaces, and massive windows that allow passersby a peek into the black wallpapered library.
The original owner of this house, Frederick Ruskaup, owned a grocery store, a commercial building on Dorman St., and five duplexes.
This Queen Anne-style brick mansion in Cottage Home was designed by Vonnegut and Bohn in 1892. It features a massive wraparound porch and a turret that we could swear we’ve seen ghostly figures gliding around in.
Grindstone Public House: Offering refined American elegance in a historic Noblesville setting with global wines and craft cocktails.
The Fountain Room: The premiere modern-twist supper club in Indianapolis’ Bottleworks District, blending elevated American cuisine with a sophisticated atmosphere.
If you missed Aroma, we have good news. The Indian restaurant, which closed its Fletcher Place location and sold its Meridian-Kessler one in April, will reopen in the former Gallery Bistro + Bar spot at 110 S. Pennsylvania St. It’s expected to debut before the end of the year. (IBJ)
