In the US, golf season typically starts as early as March or April + swings until October or November.
Since it’s summer and you may have more free time on your hands, we’re sharing some golf courses to tee up around Indianapolis — if you can stand the heat.
Brickyard Crossing | 4400 W. 16th St. | If you’re a golfer + a race fan, you have to practice your swing at this classic course at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway with views of the Pagoda. It’s an 18 hole, 72 par golf course with nine holes inside the famous track — there’s even a pro shop and restaurant on the grounds.
Coffin Golf Course | 2401 Cold Spring Rd. | This course was redesigned in 1995 + offers 18 holes in a tree-lined setting along the White River. It hosts Riverside Golf Academy, which is a PGA-recognized practice range. The academy has indoor and outdoor practice facilities, plus a lighted par-3 golf course.
Coffin Golf Course has a unique layout along a river with some elevation changes.

The Fort Golf Resort | 6002 N. Post Rd. | This golf course is located in Fort Harrison State Park + sits on a 1,700-acre complex that is unusually hilly for central Indiana. The Fort offers rolling terrain and breathtaking views, earning it recognition as the No. 1 golf course layout in the US by GolfPass in 2018.
Pleasant Run Golf Course | 601 N. Arlington Ave. | Pleasant Run has a good layout and is a great example of an older city course. It has some interesting holes, gently rolling terrain, tree-lined fairways, and a creek that makes this course a city favorite. Fun fact: This course was designed by world renowned golf course architect Arthur Hills.
Sahm Golf Course | 6800 E. 91st St. | This course was designed in 1963 by renowned golf course designer Pete Dye. Since then, the priority has always been to deliver a beautiful yet challenging golf experience; the owner said, “My goal is to provide some kind of memory for the people that play here.”
Buffer Park Golf Course | 3825 Foltz St. | Buffer Park is a championship-style nine hole golf course with a peaceful parkland setting. With four separate teeing areas on each hole, Buffer Park is equally accessible to beginners and challenging for pros. And the best part: You can normally play nine holes in under two hours.
Eagle Creek Golf Club
| 8802 W. 56th St. | As a Consumers Choice Award winner for Favorite Public Golf Course in Indianapolis, Eagle Creek presents players with two unique courses. The Pines course combines a challenging front-nine with a more player-friendly back-nine, while the Sycamore course blends hilly terrain and water holes with a more traditional links style.
