The adult beverage-friendly districts are spreading across central Indiana. Here’s the 411 on where they’re headed and what they could mean for your neighborhood.

It’s time to talk about DORA — no, not the explorer.

DORA stands for designated outdoor refreshment area — a concept that’s been spreading rapidly across the state since Indiana legalized it last summer. Within a DORA, people 21+ can buy alcohol in a specially marked cup and venture outside with their drink to stroll, socialize, and shop.

Proponents believe that DORAs will boost revenue for local businesses + bolster a greater sense of community. Opponents are concerned about waste caused by the new cups (several DORAs are looking into biodegradable containers) and monitoring consumption along the area borders.
