Soon, you’ll be able to see 43 Hoosier icons downtown. No, not in the flesh, but their portraits will look down on the upcoming Bicentennial Unity Plaza , thanks to Chicago-based artist Anna Muphy.
The Indy Arts Council + Pacers Sports & Entertainment are teaming up for the fourth and final mural in the Bicentennial Legends series, and Anna will begin painting it in July. The mural will feature a slew of legends , including Eli Lilly, Julia Carson, Kurt Vonnegut Jr., and Edna Martin. A public dedication ceremony is planned for the fall.
The other Bicentennial murals highlight Major Taylor , Madam CJ Walker , and Etheridge Knight — which will be unveiled on Mass Ave. on June 30.
