“The Flying Bandit” 💸
“Bandit” comes out on Tues., Sept. 20. | Video via YouTube
There’s a new action movie called “Bandit” coming out, starring Mel Gibson + Josh Duhamel — and it’s based on Hoosier ex-con Gilbert Galvan.
In the 1980s, Gilbert had afive-year career as a prolific bank + jewelry store robber in Canada. One of Canada’s most legendary bank robbers, he claims to have robbed more banks than another Hoosier — John Dillinger. He was called “The Flying Bandit” because he frequently flew from one side of Canada to another in a single day to pull a job.
After spending 25 years in Terre Haute’s federal penitentiary, Gilbert has been living on the near north side for the past seven years. He’ll be flying out of IND to the movie’s premiere on Tues., Sept. 20. Stay tuned for showtimes in Indy.
Editor’s pick: It’s officially after Labor Day + it looks like temperatures will be dropping slowly this week. So the big question is, how early is “too early” to start talking about all things fall? As a resident of Irvington (aka Indy’s own Halloweentown), I’ve already noticed oversized spiders crowning a few rooftops and jack-o-lanterns scattered across many porches. Let us know: are you ready for spooky season or are you still working on our end-of-summer checklist?
