There’s a new action movie called “Bandit” coming out, starring Mel Gibson + Josh Duhamel and it’s based on Hoosier ex-con Gilbert Galvan.

In the 1980s, Gilbert had a five-year career as a prolific bank + jewelry store robber in Canada. One of Canada’s most legendary bank robbers, he claims to have robbed more banks than another Hoosier — John Dillinger. He was called “The Flying Bandit” because he frequently flew from one side of Canada to another in a single day to pull a job.

After spending 25 years in Terre Haute’s federal penitentiary, Gilbert has been living on the near north side for the past seven years. He’ll be flying out of IND to the movie’s premiere on Tues., Sept. 20. Stay tuned for showtimes in Indy.
