Which Indy restaurants should get MICHELIN stars?

In honor of the MICHELIN Guide expanding into the Great Lakes region of the U.S. with Indianapolis included, here are a few restaurants we think deserve the prestigious honor.

INDYtoday: INDY_James Beard awards Bluebeard_APR24

When it comes to recognition by the James Beard Foundation, Bluebeard is the most decorated restaurant in Indianapolis.

Any foodie worth their Himalayan pink salt knows that MICHELIN stars are the most prestigious honor for a restaurant to receive. Yet, for reasons unknown to us, the organization did not publish a guide for Indiana — until now.

MICHELIN announced last week that it’s creating a MICHELIN Guide American Great Lakes edition, which will include Cleveland, Detroit, Milwaukee, Minneapolis, Pittsburgh — and, of course, Indianapolis.

As Indy’s biggest fans, we might be biased, but we’re pretty sure we have a wealth of local restaurants that should earn MICHELIN stars. Which establishments do you think are worthy of the honor?

INDYtoday’s picks

  • BODHI’s fresh, flavorful Thai food and inventive cocktails are nothing short of outstanding. When we want to impress out-of-town visitors, this is the first place we go.
  • If you’ve ever dined at Bluebeard, you know how special its farm-to-table fare is. In fact, James Beard — roughly regarded as the American equivalent of MICHELIN — has recognized the restaurant and its chefs several times.
  • Where else can you get a pork belly, pineapple mango slaw, and brie sandwich but Love Handle? The ever-changing menu always holds exciting, delicious surprises when we visit.
  • When it comes to fine dining, perhaps nowhere else in the city does it like Vida. Since opening in 2016, it’s earned AAA’s coveted Four Diamond award every year.

Reader recommendations

  • “Please include Oakley’s. Love it!” — Carol H.
  • “Anthony’s Chophouse in Carmel is a great MICHELIN star pick!” — Jennifer B., also nominated by Mel M.
