☀️ Summertime’s slippin’ away

INDYtoday: Indy_Square Scoop Ice Cream_AUG23
Square Scoop is named after its location, not the shape of its scoops — and its flavors are anything but square. | Photo by @squarescoop
We’re officially less than one month away from the start of fall — what are you doing to savor the last days of summer?

With Indy’s outdoor venues, water spots, ice cream shops, and warm weather activities, anything is popsicle, err — possible.

Put on some sunglasses and start crossing things off on our top 10 end-of-summer activities list.
  1. Stop by one of Indy’s many ice cream shops for a scoop (or three).
  2. Have a picnic with these pro tips.
  3. Sun’s out, buns out. Enjoy the unofficial dish of summer — hot dogs.
  4. Grab a cozy blanket and head to the countryside to see some stars.
  5. Soak up the rest of patio season before the space heaters come out.
  6. Put some time on the calendar for a date night with your new fling, your longtime love, or yourself (you deserve it).
  7. Watch a movie from the comfort of your car at Tibbs Drive-In Theatre or surrounded by chef’s kiss-worthy food at “Movies at Midtown.”
  8. Work outside and enjoy the fresh air before it gets too chilly.
  9. Kayak, canoe, or paddle board around the Circle City.
  10. Pay a visit or snag a ticket to one of these top seasonal adventures, including fairs, festivals, concerts, and sporting events.
What’s the must-do thing on your end of summer bucket list?

News Notes

Shop

LEGO’s newest ideas set was designed by Portland, OR teenager Alex Sahli, depicting daily life in Italy’s coastal villages. This is our official pitch to have a model built after the Indianapolis Motor Speedway — or really, any of our iconic landmarks.

Tech

Google has launched Preferred Sources in the US, a feature that allows your favorite sources to appear more frequently in search results. This is great news if you love INDYtoday — you can follow Google’s instructions to see even more of our hyperlocal content.

Real Estate

How much do you think the most expensive single-family home listing in the United States is? If you guessed $300 million, congratulations. This recent listing in Aspen, Colorado sits on 74+ acres and boasts 27,000+ sqft within the idyllic, scarcely believable beauty of the Rocky Mountains. We’ll start a GoFundMe.
Handsome Dan and Jack the Bulldog. No, those aren’t frat boy nicknames. College football is back, and it’s time to meet the 12 beloved dogs who rep their schools across the US. Tune into the action for a chance to glimpse the four-legged cuties. (US News & World Report)

Eat

Chipotle has launched “Build-Your-Own Chipotle,” a new, digital-only offering that allows you to order key ingredients in bulk for small groups (or meal prepping, perhaps?) Alternatively, switch up your lunch routine with a bite from one of these local spots where a meal for one costs less than $10.

Sports

The Colts got to work after roster cuts, including bringing in new players and forming their practice squad. Go beyond the scoreboard for the biggest stories on the Indianapolis Colts with Locked On’s daily, team-focused podcasts.
