It’s looking massive and we can’t wait until the finished project.

If you’ve been by Frederick Douglass Park recently, you’ve probably noticed that the family center is finally starting to take shape in the Martindale-Brightwood neighborhood.

We gave you the details about this $20 million project last summer, but here are the highlights:

  • Funding for the 45,000-sqft facility comes from the Circle City Forward initiative.
  • It’s taking the place of the old structure at 1616 E. 25th St.
  • It will include a community hall, exercise studio, demo kitchen, basketball courts, a food pantry, and an elevated track.
  • The plans for this center came together after four public meetings with community feedback.

The completion date is expected to be sometime in October 2023.
