We have a feeling this announcement is gonna cost more than a couple grand.

The City of Westfield announced expansion plans to turn its Grand Park Sports Campus into an exciting new lifestyle district with “a cohesive and accessible urban environment.”

The proposal includes:

  • A 10,000-seat “Championship Stadium” at the northwest corner of 186th Street and Grand Park Boulevard
  • A new canal system + lake with a beach, recreational kayaking and paddle boating opportunities, and a feature attraction (currently pictured as a Ferris wheel)
  • A linear park connecting the sports center + lake with features including a mini recreational football field, Olympic-style podiums, play structures, splash pads, hammocks, and swings
  • An ice rink facility or sports headquarters building
  • 2,000+ new multi-family residential units — doubling the district’s total dwelling units
  • Restaurants and family entertainment offerings
  • A trolley system connecting Grand Park to downtown Westfield

This year, the city will refine the district’s design, budgets, and schedules. Once construction begins, it’s expected to take ~10 years.
