With more projects than we can even keep track of sometimes, we think it’s fair to call 2024 a year of development in Indianapolis.
You’ll be seeing lots of cranes and construction barriers across the city, so to help you keep it all straight, we’re rounding up some of the biggest development projects that will be under construction — and even nearing completion — this year.
This expansion will bring the total number of hotel rooms connected via climate-controlled skywalks in Indianapolis to more than 5,500 — more than any other city in the country.

City Market will close for redevelopment of the block starting March 1.
Expansion of the Cultural Trail along Indiana Avenue and South Street is expected to be completed in the spring + work will begin on a second phase along the White River — plus, a new bridge.
The trail expansion will connect downtown to Elanco’s new headquarters and Indy Eleven’s new stadium, Eleven Park, which are both currently under construction.
Construction could begin late in the year on the Old City Hall property, planned to become a boutique hotel, apartments, condos, and art gallery with an adjoining tower.
Construction of Bottleworks Phase II will be completed in sections, with openings expected in 2024 and 2025.
Work is underway for the Pan Am Plaza redevelopment, which includes convention center expansion and a new Signia by Hilton hotel, and is anticipated to be completed in the summer of 2026.
North Mass District is in the works — with one section to wrap in spring, followed by more construction expected to start in the summer.

NBA All-Star Game building hype with basketball court at IND
It took a span of three evenings for crews to build the actual sized professional basketball court at IND. | Photo provided by Indianapolis Airport Authority
Pickup game at 3 p.m., boarding at 5 p.m. Just kidding.
In case you missed it on social media or haven’t been to the Indianapolis International Airport recently, there’s a 50-ft-wide by 94-ft-long professional basketball court inside the airport.
The basketball court and other basketball-themed installations at IND are here to welcome basketball fans who will be in town for the NBA All-Star Game + build up the energy leading up to the big weekend (Feb. 16-18).
There are All-Star logos and graphics placed throughout the airport, plus a 6-ft tall ceramic basketball hand painted by local muralist Koda Witsken will be placed at Baggage Claim + a vibrant mural by local artist Shaunt’e Lewis in Concourse B.
There’s more in store at the airport, with live music from local musicians, custom artwork in the airport’s KIND Gallery from local artists, and pop-up shops for fans to grab merch and wear the All-Star logo with pride.
Just to reiterate, the basketball court at the airport is a visual and is not meant to play basketball on, so don’t bring your balls to the airport.

One of my favorite things to report on for INDYtoday has been development projects — and there have been no shortage of stories for me to cover over the past two years. It’s hard for me to say which I’m most excited about, but Bottleworks Phase II is definitely high on the list for me.
