Rejoice, Hoosiers— the spring equinox was Sun., March 20, and with that, the promise of warmer days, blossoming landscapes, and yes (takes deep sigh) pollen. Personally, we think the weather is an underrated conversation topic, so we peeked at some of the major weather trends headed our way over the next few months.
Here’s what you can expect this spring in Indy and beyond based on predictions from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Climate Prediction Center.
Think warm. Expect to see warmer-than-normal temperatures across much of the United States, with the exception of the Pacific Northwest, California coast + upper Midwest, where temperatures are expected to be slightly cooler through at least April. In Indy there is a 40-50% chance of temperatures being above average this season. Usually, Indianapolis averages highs of 63° in April, 73° in May, and 82° in June.
Keep your umbrella handy. There’s a 40-50% chance that rain will trend above normal through June. Usually, Indy averages 4.3 inches of rain in April, 4.7 in May, and 4.9 in June.
The chances of a drought developing will remain unlikely through June 30.
